Pupils with SEND
The Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) is Miss Allen.
At Grange Park Junior School, all pupils receive quality first teaching that is differentiated and personalised which enables them to make the best possible progress and feel that they are a valued member of the wider school community. We expect that all pupils with a special educational need and/or disability (SEND) will meet or exceed the high expectations we set for them through an enriched curriculum with a range of resources and strategies catered to our children.
As a school, we ensure that pupils with an additional need receive support, whilst having access to a broad and balanced curriculum. By working in partnership with families, it is our aim that pupils will become confident individuals that are able to make a successful transition on to the next phase of their education.
In the Classroom
Our pupils with a special educational need and/or disability (SEND) are supported through a range of scaffolds in the classroom. Our inquisitive learners have access to a variety of resources that enable them to meet age-related expectations through independent work and support provided by our staff. Our Help Desks in the classroom enable our children to confidently seek out resources that may benefit them in their learning.
At Grange Park Junior School, all pupils remain in the classroom for quality first teaching. We acknowledge that all pupils benefit from extra support which may come in the form of 1:1 support in the classroom, specific interventions and individual sessions. This enables us to respond to the needs of our learners whilst providing stability and structure to our pupils.
Our children are able to access speech and language therapy which is directed by the speech and language therapist and involves pupils working in groups to complete activities to support their speech and language needs. Through Occupational Therapy targets, our staff are able to continue with implementing support in the classroom. Our phonics interventions allow us to assess and support our learners who may require extra support in meeting the phonics requirements in KS1. In conjunction with interventions across the curriculum, where needed, our children are able to practise applying their skills.
Home and School Connections
In addition to this, all pupils on our SEND register will have an individualised Learning Plan. This is a document created together with the school, parents and child that gives pupils SMART targets to work on for a term. Our plans outline how our children will be supported to meet their targets at school, how families can support our learners at home and the expected outcomes. This is reviewed each term (in line with parents' evenings) with the school, parents and child, and a copy is sent home to promote home and school connections.
