Behaviour Policy

We have implemented a new Behaviour Policy for September 2024

Our policy aims to:

  • Provide a consistent approach to behaviour management
  • Define what we consider to be unacceptable behaviour, including bullying and discrimination
  • Outline how pupils are expected to behave
  • Summarise the roles and responsibilities of different people in the school community with regard to behaviour management
  • Outline our system of rewards and sanctions

We believe that the best way of securing helpful, positive behaviour for pupils is to create an ethos which recognises and praises effort, good choices and is child centred. We believe that it is our duty to develop positive relationships with all our pupils, and support them in learning to develop positive relationships of their own.

We want children to develop positive habits and attitudes which will equip them for complex or challenging situations and a set of social skills. Confidence and resilience are key factors we instil in our pupils in order for them to deal with complex and / or difficult choices. Furthermore, to ensure that behaviour improves, it is essential that every opportunity is given to children to reflect and undertake restorative practice.

Every class has a Class Charter, which summarises the behaviour expected within our policy.

Category 1

Low

Not showing the values, calling out, not completing tasks, running in school, talking when an adult is talking.

Verbal Warning

Category 2

Medium

Persistent Cat. 1 behaviours, distracting others, refusal, name calling, being disrespectful to an adult, littering, deliberate use of hands and feet to hurt others, leaving the classroom without permission, not telling the truth.

Loss of Playtime / Lunchtime

Category 3

Serious

Swearing, bullying, hate related name calling, damaging property, consistently not completing homework, damaging property and deliberately hurting someone.

Internal Suspension

Category 4

Extreme Behaviour

Serious damage to property, threatening others, bringing in a prohibited item, running around school, seriously hurting another pupil, stealing, false allegations against staff, assault/ defiance against staff, intentional hate related crime.
