Attendance
Attendance Certificates
To motivate our pupils, we have an Attendance Award system. At the end of the academic year, pupils with 100% attendance will receive a certificate, celebratory letter and a treat! Class certificates are awarded on a weekly basis in our achievement assemblies.
Excellent attendance is key to ensuring children make good progress. Mrs Phull, our Admissions Manager, regularly monitors attendance and punctuality at Grange Park Junior School.
Pupils are expected to attend school every day and be on time.
All children are expected to enter and leave through the Balmoral Drive field gate.
Start of the Day:
- 8:30am – Balmoral Drive gates open
- 8:40am – Foyer doors open
- 8:45am – School start time
End of the Day:
- 3.00pm - Balmoral Drive gates open
- 3.20pm - School end time
- 3.30pm - Balmoral Drive gates close
Authorised Absences
If you know that your child is going to be absent from school eg dental, hospital or clinic appointments, you must inform the school office in advance. For an illness or unforeseen absence, please inform the school office by 8:30am and provide evidence in the form of appointment cards, text messages or letters of correspondence.
Unauthorised Absences
These are absences for which we do not receive a written explanation, or days for which there is not an adequate reason. If your child is off sick and you have not contacted the school by 8:30am then the school will attempt to make contact with the parent/carer. If no contact or no appropriate reason is given, the absence will be recorded as unauthorised. If contact has not been made by the second day of absence, then the school will action a home visit by a DSL and our Admissions Manager.
Punctuality
Being late to school can be extremely unsettling for children, particularly when they arrive into class and teaching has already begun. Being late can impact on their start to the day and impact teaching and learning for them and also for other pupils.
Request for Leave & Term Time Holiday Requests
There is no entitlement for holidays during term time. However the Headteacher will consider leave for exceptional circumstances only. Requests should be made in writing to the Headteacher prior to your child’s absence. For further information, please read Working Together To Improve School Attendance produced by the Department for Education.
