Computing
At Grange Park Junior School, our computing curriculum helps pupils become digitally connected by using computational thinking and creativity to understand and interact with the fast-changing digital world. Our broad curriculum is designed to build pupils' confidence in their technical skills by teaching them how information is processed, how digital systems work, and how they can use this knowledge through programming.
We encourage pupils to be curious and explore technology responsibly. The curriculum includes plenty of opportunities to revisit what they've learnt so that everyone stays engaged with computing. Pupils develop fundamental skills that are useful not only in computing but also in other subjects and future careers. Since computing is based on problem-solving, all pupils gain a strong technical and analytical understanding of how technology fits into the world around us.
Pupils are timetabled for one computing lesson in our computer suite each week. Activities are planned to ensure that pupils become digitally literate – able to use, and express themselves and develop their ideas through, information and communication technology. Effectively using desktop computers is a critical skill-set that will benefit pupils in their further education and careers.
To further supplement our pupils' learning, we also have multiple sets of iPads. These are used across the curriculum, including some computing lessons, mathematics practise and the creation of digital media such as stop-motion animation and music via Garageband.
