French

We believe that learning a modern foreign language provides our pupils with the opportunity to gain an understanding of the social and cultural aspects of the language and country that they study.

Learning a language helps pupils develop an understanding of the world that they live in and gives them a starting point on which to communicate with people from other countries. We aim for our children to develop a love for languages which will help support a curiosity about other cultures around the world.

At Grange Park Junior School, French is taught by our specialist language teacher with all year groups getting one hour of French a week.  Children use a variety of speaking and listening activities to develop their language skills, which they then progress to reading and writing in the language that they are being taught.

The teaching of French is fully interactive with the children using activities such as songs, role play and games to develop their vocabulary and understanding of the grammar structure of the language studied. The curriculum has been designed to constantly revisit language so that the children are able to communicate effectively in French.
