Pupil Well-Being

The well-being and positive mental health of our children is paramount in ensuring that all of our children feel happy and safe in our school.  To support us with this we have created a themed wellbeing room. This dedicated space provides a calm and safe environment for our children to engage with their emotions and be provided with strategies to promote positive mental health.

All children in school have access to this facility either through 1:1 support, small group work or whole class sessions. Children may be supported in a range of ways:

  • 1:1 support allows children to share their feelings confidentially with a trusted adult and to receive guidance on resolving their difficulties.
  • All children are able to share their worries with our adults. In addition to this, all children have access to 'worry boxes' in which they can share any concerns with the reassurance that our pastoral officer will be checking the boxes daily. These boxes have forms and pencils stocked so that our children can report their worries instantly.
  • In line with our programme of student leadership, each class is equipped with a Wellbeing Buddy who works closely with our pastoral officer to support others in the classroom and during lunchtime.
  • Following a referral from our Inclusion Team, we offer counselling sessions with a qualified counsellor trained in CBT.
  • Small group work encourages children to share their feelings with others of similar needs, whilst being supported using relevant emotional literacy programmes, all of which help to develop children’s confidence, self-esteem and personal growth. Some of the interventions we offer include:
    • Bereavement
    • Zones of regulation
    • Self-regulation
    • Confidence building
    • Social groups
  • All children explore wellbeing through a bespoke PSHE curriculum. Our PSHE curriculum ensures that our children have opportunities to explore the zones of regulation in each session, in line with our Behaviour Policy. Our curriculum also addresses significant themes including e-safety, anti-bullying and mindfulness.

We believe that positive mental health and wellbeing are essential to effectively supporting all of our children to be the best that they can be.
